Presidential Election and Book Character Day !

November has been a very busy month for our 2nd graders ! We learned about the presidential election and the two candidates who were campaigning. We held a mock election and graphed our class data.

The ballot box filled with votes !

I read the book "Vote for Me" and we discussed the two presidential candidates and the different political parties they represented.

Each student received an "I VOTED" sticker once they submitted their ballot.

We also celebrated BOOK CHARACTER Day by dressing up as our favorite book characters! There was even a parade at school !

The upstairs 2nd grade team members were the 5 Little Monkeys !

Canned Food Drive

Our school does a yearly canned food drive to benefit the Drew Fowler Food Pantry here in our community. Donations are accepted for one week, and the class that donates the most cans wins a pizza party. Our class donated 145 cans and won the party! It felt so good to give back to our community. Thank you to everyone who donated and helped us earn this fun privilege!

Welcome Miss. Neds !

Room 244 is honored to be welcoming Miss. Hannah Neds into the classroom until December. I will let her tell you a little bit about herself !

Hello! My name is Hannah Neds, and I am thrilled to be working in your child’s 2nd grade classroom this semester! I am a senior at Bob Jones University. My major is Elementary Education, and this semester in Mrs. Phillips classroom is the high point of my college career. Mrs. Phillips has welcomed me into her classroom, and throughout the semester I am going to be gradually taking on more of the teaching responsibility. I graduate from college in the spring of next year, and am looking forward to continuing a teaching career. Although I am originally from Ohio, my family has lived in Texas for the past nine years. I have grown up around children (I have 12 siblings) and love working with kids! I have also enjoyed helping out in various elementary schools in Texas, as well as tutoring my own younger siblings with their school work. I am very excited about my time at Welcome Elementary, and am committed to doing my very best in helping each child succeed.

We are so lucky to have her!

An Informative Video

Parents and Teachers - This video, produced by the National PTA, addresses the Common Core State Standards, which were developed in collaboration with teachers, school administrators, and experts to provide a clear and consistent framework to prepare our children for college and the workforce. The standards provide teachers and parents with a common understanding of what students are expected to learn.
